1. Cacao

Cacao Powder SuperfoodThis is the raw, unprocessed form of cocoa which makes it naturally very low in sugar. It has 40 times more antioxidants than blueberries, is the highest plant based source of iron, contains more calcium than cow’s milk and is one of the best food sources of magnesium. This is great news for your heart and brain health, plus it’s a natural mood booster and should reduce cravings. Will all of that in mind, it can only be at the top of this list.

We use cacao powder in our delicious Cacao & Banana Oatmeal recipe, or try adding to a smoothie. Chia Seeds SuperfoodAnother favorite of ours, we add chia seeds to almost anything. We prefer them whole for added crunch in smoothies but feel free to get the finely milled variety if you prefer. They are one of the most nutrient dense foods on the planet, they are loaded with fiber, protein, Omega 3 fatty acids and many micronutrients. They are 40% fiber by weight, making them one of the best sources of fiber in the world. They are also 14% protein which is very high compared to most plants and since protein is the most weight loss friendly macronutrient in our diets, its good news for our waistline. Have you tried one of these superfoods yourself? Did they work? You did a good job and I hope that you’ll continue to bring more useful information in the future!

Yes, I regularly use these superfoods in my cooking and often enjoy cacao in my oatmeal or a hot cocoa and add baobab, maca and chia seeds to my smoothies. I find that they give me the energy boost I need before a morning run and they are super tasty too!

  2. This is a really handy list of superfoods and how they can benefit you. I’ve used some in the past, but hadn’t heard of a few before. I especially love your comments about cacao. Everyone always talks about how bad chocolate is and how you need to stop eating it for all kinds of reasons, but that’s only because the main ingredients in chocolate are sugar and milk, not cocoa. You don’t have to give up the part of chocolate that actually tastes good, just limit the sugar and dairy.
